The Fixer - Preview of Cases

Case #1 - Movie Newcomer's Drug Case
A new movie star, fresh off from winning an award, is having a drug party in his hotel room. It is not until his manager arrives at the scene that they realize the situation has gotten out of hand and a large group of reporters are waiting downstairs. Faced with an uncontrollable situation and needing to protect the newcomer's reputation, his manager decides to ask "The Fixers" for help. How can Chin Ka Lok and his team eliminate all the evidence and quietly bring the movie star away from the scene without the media knowing?

Case #2 - Commercial Fraud Fugitive
Reporter Yao Bin is wanted nationally for commercial fraud. Hiding inside the embassy of a small nation, he will be arrested by the Hong Kong police within 24 hours. Under these emergency circumstances, he seeks the help of "The Fixers", hoping that they can rescue him and help him escape from Hong Kong as soon as possible. After analysis from legal consultant Mandy Wong, the team decides to take this case. Unexpectedly, the case involves Chin Ka Lok's brother, OCTB sergeant Benjamin Yuen. Behind it is also a scandal involving corrupt Mainland officials.

Case #3 - Fake Milk Powder
With local milk powder in short supply, the triads have not only gotten involved in trafficking milk powder, some have even made fake milk powder to sell as the real thing. It has caused great tension in society and led to incidents of babies being poisoned by the fake milk powder. It turns out that this is all linked to a rift between two triad leaders, Eddie Pang and Ken Law. While the police intervenes to tackle the crime, the leader of "The Fixers", Chin Ka Lok, is also forced to act...

Case #4 - Kidnapping of Triad Leader's Wife
Just when the fake milk powder case seemed to be resolved, triad leader Eddie Pang and his wife Candice Chiu are suddenly attacked. Candice is even kidnapped and her whereabouts are unknown. It sets off a new round of bloodshed on the streets. What sort of conspiracy is underlying this incident and how can "The Fixers" solve this problem?

Overview - The Fixer

When police officers, lawyers or triad members have difficult problems that they cannot solve, an underground organization called "The Fixers" will step in. Mastermind Chin Ka Lok leads the group, consisting of legal expert Mandy Wong, computer expert Tracy Chu, flirty thief Timmy Hung and former government official Henry Lo. The team of five uses extraordinary tactics that trend on the borderline to help their clients solve difficult problems. Under the leadership of the courageous and intelligent Ka Lok, the team is invincible. But when Ka Lok re-encounters his brother, OCTB officer Benjamin Yuen, whom he has not seen for many years, he finds out that his mother Gigi Wong has dementia. To make up for his past mistakes, he mends his relationship with his family and experiences a family warmth that he never had before. However, the appearance of a mysterious person pushes everything that Ka Lok has to the brink. The identities of the team members are exposed one after another. Hunted by both the police and triads, breaking with his own brother and left to fight alone, how can Ka Lok fix his own problem?

Hong Kong Adventures

A little overdue, but here's the post about my time in Hong Kong!

A Good Heart Goes Haywire Location Filming

I stumbled upon another TVB filming session. I couldn't get the name of the drama from any of the production people, but I suspect they were shooting for A Good Heart Goes Haywire since the actors I saw are all in that series.

There was no dialogue throughout the scene. From my guesstimation, Jack Wu and Benz Hui are following/spying on the light blue shirt guy (any help here?), who was walking two dogs. This would make sense since Benz plays a police officer in the series.

Also saw Sammy Shum in the TVB van, but couldn't snap a picture of him.

Opening Day of Racing Season

I was at the opening day of the racing season when I spotted Eric Tsang at the race course. He and Nat Chan are well-known horse-owners in the entertainment industry. Eric's horse finished first in one of the races, so he was taking pictures with the horse and jockey at the podium. Only managed to get picture of him in the crowd. Can you spot him? Divas in Distress Promotional Event

I was shopping and what do you know? There was a promotional event for Divas in Distress at that mall! Most of the cast was there, minus Gigi Wong, who apparently was in Canada at that time. The event started with the child actor "Michel" playing the piano along with someone singing the theme song. Then all the actors came out for games. The first game was to decorate a lantern (in anticipation of the Mid-Autumn Festival), with Liza Wang being the judge. Him and Mandy's team won.

For the second game, each of the couples were called up: Him/Mandy, Chin Ka Lok/Eliza, So Gei/Lo Lo. The ladies had to throw balls at the guys who were holding big pink hearts. The objective is to get as many of the balls to stick on the heart as possible. Him and Mandy won again. They seem to have so much chemistry even when playing games.

The final segment featured a performance of the English songs used in the drama. Him and Mandy did a little dance during their song.

Translated Article:
Liza Wang and Gigi Wong are former actresses who share the same mentor. From their acting days to the present, their feud has gone on for 30 years. If not for their mentor, Chung King-fei (King Sir), they would never want to associate with one another again. But as irony has it, Gigi’s son, Chin Ka-Lok, is actually Liza’s son-in-law. Years ago, Liza’s daughter died while giving birth to his child, leaving Liza with a deep emotional scar. Now, news reporter/rich girl, Eliza Sum, suddenly appears on the scene for Chin Ka-Lok. Gigi wants for her son to remarry, while Liza tries to sabotage the relationship. Meanwhile, Liza wants her son, Him Law, to be successful in life. Yet he falls in love with Gigi’s niece, the tomboy-construction worker, Mandy Wong. Akin to her daughter and Chin Ka-Lok’s romance, Liza does everything she can to damage the budding love. All these conflicts cause Liza and Gigi’s old rivalry to resurface. Their quarrels make it tough for their children who are stuck in the middle.

Comment: This is not a sequel of the first A Chip Off the Old Block. It is merely playing on the name of the original. A mainly veteran cast with some of the younger generation (Him Law, Mandy Wong). The synopsis reminds me of War of the in Laws, with Liza as the unreasonable mother-in-law. Why is she always given these bratty roles nowadays? I’d like to see Liza reprise the classy professional roles like in When Rules Turn Loose or A Matter of Customs. Gigi will likely be equally unforgiving in this drama, similar to the first A Chip Off the Old Block. This sounds like a delight to the housewife population, but a source of endless frustration for me. On the bright side, I can focus on the new school year…
