Years ago, Kara Hui almost poisoned her son (Vincent Wong) and daughter (Joey Thye) because of her schizophrenia. Experiencing great change, Vincent develops an alter-ego who is physically weak but highly intelligent. His alter-ego works hard and becomes a handwriting expert, helping the agile Vincent carry out his undercover mission. A double bomb case and a case featuring bloody words on a nude corpse prompts Chief Inspector Chris Lai to create a task force to find the perpetrator. The task force includes Vincent, psychiatrist Benjamin Yuen, bomb disposal officer Mandy Wong, and forensic entomologist Venus Wong. The four of them get involved in a love pentagon! The “Father of Criminal Investigation” Philip Keung has recovered from bipolar disorder and is appointed to lead the task force as they investigate various mysterious cases. But he discovers Kara may be involved in the mystery behind his wife's (Alice Chan) disappearance. As the puzzle is revealed piece-by-piece, how will they each face the truth?

Overview - Line Walker: Bull Fight

Raymond Lam continues to carry out missions for the Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) to combat different criminals. Meanwhile, Michael Miu has completed his three-year sentence for shooting criminal syndicate boss Chung King-fei. He opens a café and lives peacefully with his wife Elena Kong, but faces the danger of retaliation from the triads. Meanwhile, CIB Chief Inspector Mandy Wong and Michael's former undercover agent, Priscilla Wong, suspect that Michael has intentions of joining the triads. They secretly investigate Michael's relationship with triad members.

Raymond and Michael investigate a human trafficking case and solve the case with help from the Security Bureau's investigator Kenneth Ma. The Security Bureau invites Benjamin Yuen to join its new intelligence unit. Michael is drawn into the election of the new triad leader. A former partner runs in the election using a different identity. Michael re-encounters his old opponent Benz Hui, who had supposedly been shot by Raymond. He also discovers that Kenneth's real identity is the younger brother of his former enemy Moses Chan and that he is plotting revenge against everyone. Everyone joins together in the investigation and uncovers a massive dark organization. Suddenly, a storm approaches again...

Overview - The Defected

CID Inspector Benjamin Yuen was originally a rising star on the police force. While trying to save a colleague, he gets shot in the head and his life changes forever. Chief Superintendent Kara Hui is ambitious and has high hopes to become the first female Commissioner of Police. The person who shot Benjamin turns out to be Kara's undercover agent, Philip Keung. Philip has no limits when it comes to helping Kara investigate cases, yet Kara breaks her promise to him while jockeying for power against fellow Chief Superintendent Benz Hui. Enraged, Philip shoots at her and accidentally injures Benjamin. The shot forced Philip to become a defector, but he feels guilty towards Benjamin, so he secretly helps him solve cases. Benjamin and Philip become pawns in the power struggle. Luckily, they get the help of Ben Wong, Chief Superintendent of the Complaint and Internal Investigations Branch. Ben vows to use power to end the power struggle.

Unfortunately, because of him, Natalie suffered serious consequences. Aside from missing her wedding, her fiancé (Yeung Chiu Hoi) mysteriously goes missing. To help her regain her spirit, Benjamin takes over Yeung Chiu Hoi's coffee shop. He meets barista Hubert Wu and re-encounters his childhood friend Rebecca Zhu. Rebecca, a pole dancing teacher, has many men at her feet, but she only has feelings for Benjamin. But Benjamin, carrying the burden of extending his life, gradually develops feelings for Natalie, and they fall into the anguish of loving each other, but being unable to be together...

Overview - Threesome

Mandy reluctantly agrees in order to ensure that she can marry Jason Chan, a highly eligible bachelor. Thus begins an extraordinary experience for them. Because of sudden personality switches, Mandy often has embarrassing moments in court, which is the source of much laughter. The only person who knows about the origins of Mandy's disorder is her mother, Gigi Wong. Unfortunately, Gigi refuses to talk about the past. Meanwhile, Benjamin becomes good friends with Mandy's alter egos. In order to eliminate a future cause of trouble, Mandy is determined to make them disappear.

This may be a breakthrough role for Mandy. The synopsis sounds more interesting than when the series was first announced.

Overview - Rogue Emperor

Living on the streets of Hong Kong, Kenneth Ma claims that he is the Last Emperor of China. As social worker Tracy Chu follows his case, she gradually reveals his adventurous, absurd, legendary life devoted to pursing his love Niki Chow. Overview - A Fist Within Four Walls

Bearing the pain of having lost his family, Ruco Chan returns to the Walled City in hopes of finding his long-lost sister. The neighbourhood that he grew up in has become an unruly place dominated by evil forces. Ruco conceals his background as a disciple of "Eight Extremities Fist". Using a new identity, he meets feisty hair salon owner Nancy Wu, dentist Benjamin Yuen and labourer Jazz Lam. He also gains recognition from martial arts master Yuen Qiu.

In order to re-establish order in the Walled City, Ruco forms an association to stand up against the evil forces. It is not until his manager arrives at the scene that they realize the situation has gotten out of hand and a large group of reporters are waiting downstairs. Faced with an uncontrollable situation and needing to protect the newcomer's reputation, his manager decides to ask "The Fixers" for help. How can Chin Ka Lok and his team eliminate all the evidence and quietly bring the movie star away from the scene without the media knowing?




Case #2 - Commercial Fraud Fugitive
Reporter Yao Bin is wanted nationally for commercial fraud. Hiding inside the embassy of a small nation, he will be arrested by the Hong Kong police within 24 hours. Under these emergency circumstances, he seeks the help of "The Fixers", hoping that they can rescue him and help him escape from Hong Kong as soon as possible. Tiger Cubs II Review

If Tiger Cubs II proved anything, it is that TVB cannot make a good sequel. Everything that made the first series enjoyable - the action, the adrenaline rush, the brotherhood and the brilliance of the SDU - is gone. It is replaced with immaturity and incompetence. The bad guys (including a group of handicapped people) ran circles around this supposed "best of the best" squad. In the first series, the SDU always came back with mission accomplished. In the sequel, I can't remember a case where they didn't fail in some way. Even the guest stars paled in comparison to the original, with only Nancy Wu and Johnson Lee as the biggest names.

The cases themselves had potential, but the ideas were poorly executed. The criminals could do whatever they wanted against the ineffective SDU team. But the SDU would always manage to take them out in the end with ridiculously convenient ways. The plot holes turned the whole series into a big joke. The punch line is of course the finale with the SDU getting run down at their own headquarters until they receive divine intervention by way of a bubble. The overarching case about Linda's blown undercover identity was muddled among all the other things that were happening.

Unlike the original series, which focused mainly on the action, the sequel tried to incorporate more conflict and emotion. That turned out to be the biggest undoing because every single character became annoying to watch. Ah Lai (Him Law) was immature, with his stubborn defence of his colleague and the poor handling of his relationships. Chin Sir (Joe Ma) was too laid-back as his team was falling apart and never even tried to explain himself. Ah Yuen (Oscar Leung) spends far too much time grieving. Ah Keung (Mandy Wong) was weak. And Madam Chung (Linda Chung)... she was in a league on her own. It is beyond me how someone of her mental fitness could pass the test to become a police officer again.

The acting from the cast makes the series twice as difficult to watch. Linda's performance can only be described as torture for the audience. It was a nightmare seeing those bulging eyes and clenched jaw. Her acting was as fake as the scars on her body. Joe was majorly lacking on the emotional scenes and had zero chemistry with Linda. Oscar lost his charm from the original series and was trying too much to force his signature winks in. Him and Mandy are relatively better than the rest, although they need to lighten up. Benjamin Yuen was unnoticeable except in one early episode. Timmy Hung does not leave much of an impression either. It says a lot when the best performances actually came from the guest stars, including Pal Sinn, Jade Leung and Nancy Wu.

Rating: 2.5/5. Flying Tigers? More like Tiger Prey.
